Just bought a new new Five Seven

Post by mikepwagner » 18 Aug 2020, 17:21

The price at the local gun shop dropped to $999.99, so I pulled the trigger. I rented one, and enjoyed shooting, so I returned the rental, walked over to the retail counter, and started filling out paperwork.

One thing I have noticed is that that slide release is very stiff. Will that ease up a I shoot the pistol?

Yes or better still just pull back on the locked back slide and let go. I find this way of doing works best with all my firearms. This way I don't have to hunt for the slide stop lever since their location ans sizes can vary.

I thought I tried pulling back on the slide release to release the slide stop and that did not work.

I will try that again later tonight.

Thanks.

Just realized that I am an idiot. Of course pulling back the slide on an empty magazine and the releasing it won’t work - it’s designed to lock back on an empty magazine.

I cleaned the pistol this weekend - prior to taking it to the range for the first time tomorrow, and the stiff release with an empty magazine suddenly made a lot more sense.

Looking at the mechanism, releasing the slide on an empty magazine, the slide release has to depress the magazine follower - when the magazine is loaded, the rounds depress the follower.

That makes sense - in a situation where you are actually shooting the pistol, you would never want to release the slide on an empty magazine.
