CMMG Banshee barrel length

Post by 5Jeffro7 » 04 Mar 2019, 17:17

Very seriously considering getting a Banshee in 5.7 (that would be the MK57).

not interested in doing the SBR thing...AT THE MOMENT..., so a pistol it shall be....

prefer NOT to go with just a bare buffer tube, so the 100 series is OUT

I like the looks of the 200 series, 8" barrel with the arm brace (part number is 57A247C)

seems like the only differences between the 200 & 300 series is that the 300 (part 57A1843) is only (for now) available with a 5" barrel and has the added feature of a "no charge" cerakote color to choose from

Considering that I'm eventually going to form 1 it to an SBR, and add a suppressor, is there any particular reason to go with one barrel length over the other?

My thoughts on the 8" barrel is that even with a suppressor of about 6", still looking at the equivalent of 14" of barrel(+suppressor)...and I'm thinking that the additional 3" of barrel will not only give a slight increase in velocity, but help a little with accuracy.

if there's not really going to be a significant difference in velocity/accuracy, hell, I'll pick one up in 5" in about a week...otherwise, I'll have to wait for the 8" barrel in the 200 series to be released.

I appreciate all input from those far wiser than myself

The 8" version I reviewed had velocities very close to P90 SBR.

barrel length probably matters more than pistol/SBR classification, but was it an 8" pistol you reviewed?

I bought a 200 series a couple months ago.
Excellent quality and the M-Lok works great with any AR accessories.
Only have about 400 rounds through it so far. Eats 197, 198, and AE with no problems.
Have only used the 20 round FN and Pro-mag magazines.
Lose the 50 round capability of the PS90, but like the familiarity of the AR format, and the logistic simplicity of using both the USG and CMMG with the same mags.
At full capacity the mags worked great, even with the bolt forward.

Yeah I like the fact it uses the same mags as my pistol, add to that the lego block AR platform with countless parts and option out there you can add to it.

I have the 8 inch. I used the Sylvan Arms folding stock adapter with an SBA-3 brace. Like it a lot. Fits in a back pack.

I really like the concept of the Banshee over the upper thing. Since it uses the same mags as the pistol that appeals to me greatly. Same reason why when camping up north in bear country I packed a Blackhawk and a Lever gun in 44mag. 2 guns close and long range, same caliber and in the 5.7 same magazine.
