Ok...... So I shot my first reloaded 5.7 today. The sun was just going down so it wasn't full sun. The factory ammo has a decent amount of flash.
Well, my reloads are Blue Dot powder. 5.8 grains to 6.4 grains. I loaded 6.0 grains. I weighed every charge by hand to be 100% sure. My manual calls for magnum rifle primers. I used CCI Std rifle primers. I wanted to stay conservative on pressures. And I cannot understand why you would need a magnum primer to set off such a small powder charge....
Tremendous Fireball! Very bright and the size of a Volleyball! And blew a hole in one of the primers! Turns out this caliber is every bit as finicky as I have heard... Would magnum primers have a stronger cup?
First time loading....

Re: First time loading....
Which bullet did you use?
Be very careful when using someone else's max load. There could be variances in the scales or in manufacturing of the powders or gun which could have severe impact on what happens. My general rule of thumb is to start .5gr below max & work up.
I was using someone else's max from here & got a blown primer so I didn't fire any more of those rounds, had to pull them down.
I'd rather have a safe round than one that ekes out every FPS possible for that bullet.

Contrary to popular belief, you CAN fix stupid - it's just illegal.
