PSA AAC 5.7x28 Brass
Has anybody started resizing the AAC 5.7x28 brass yet? I've got about 55 pcs of their brass that I started to resize and was using the Hornady resizing die and ended up loosing 3 pcs due to stuck in the resizing die. Stopped using the Hornady Die (resized a total of 12 pcs). They seem to feel more effort to resize them and they give out at the base. However, switched over to Lee sizing die and so far so good (only did six without any effort). I did weighed the brass and AAC Brass are heavier than the FN Brass. H20 capacity was more in the AAC Brass then the FN Brass (not by much).

What lube did you use?
Has the Hornady die ever caused you issues with FN brass?

Re: PSA AAC 5.7x28 Brass
I have always used the Imperial Sizing Die Wax. Never had a problem with any brass before. I've reloaded several hundred pcs of 5.7x28 FN Brass without a problem. This is a first with the AAC brass. So far the Lee die has been working out with the AAC Brass.

Odd. I wonder if the dims of the AAC brass are a little off compared to FN.
I know they're first run of 5.7 was pretty anemic, and their initial rollout of their 77gr .223 had some QC issues, so it might be a case of the brass being a little off and the Lee die being a bit out of spec in the right direction as well.

Will finish up sizing them up tonight with the Lee die. I am going to use the AAC Brass for my Subsonic rounds (dark brass will indicate subs). Using Hornady 62gr FMJ for the subs. Hope to get them done sometime next week (on vacation). Will post how they turn out. Planning on using Trail Boss. Hoping to find a load that will shoot out of the AR57 and pistols. Tested the Fiocchi 62gr FMJ Subs and they were going supersonic thru the AR57.

Re: PSA AAC 5.7x28 Brass
I've never used Trail Boss (TB) in 5.7 personally, but I seem to recall it being too bulky for the little case to generate anything close to useful velocity in testing others have done here.
It's also a powder that cannot be compressed as it jacks the pressures up quickly. TB was designed to fill big cases for powder puff cowboy action loads and those who tried to use it in 300BO with 190gr+ projectiles in bolt guns found it couldn't get them moving anywhere close to 1000fps. It worked great for making 110-125gr subs, as the shorter bullets let folks put enough TB under them, but it just isn't designed to push big bullets from small cases.
I wonder if a small amount of a fast pistol powder like Bullseye wouldn't be better to put under a 62gr projectile in the little 5.7 case.

In 2010, Brian Pearce published an article with lab tested loads using AA 5, AA 7, AA 9, True Blue, Universal, Power Pistol, and W-N105.towerofpower93 wrote: ↑25 May 2023, 03:23I wonder if a small amount of a fast pistol powder like Bullseye wouldn't be better to put under a 62gr projectile in the little 5.7 case.
Probably find it on a web search.

No NO and I mean NO. Using a small amount of fast powder behind a bullet technically to heavy for the 5.7 will NOT end well.

The coating on the brass that AAC uses resizes much better with a lanolin oil type lube

Looks like he tried Accurate AA-5, AA-7, Ramshot True Blue, Vihtavuori N105, Hodgdon Universal and Alliant Power Pistol per the article I found and your post. Also looks like he only tried 40gr and 45gr projectiles.lklawson wrote: ↑25 May 2023, 04:46In 2010, Brian Pearce published an article with lab tested loads using AA 5, AA 7, AA 9, True Blue, Universal, Power Pistol, and W-N105.towerofpower93 wrote: ↑25 May 2023, 03:23I wonder if a small amount of a fast pistol powder like Bullseye wouldn't be better to put under a 62gr projectile in the little 5.7 case.

Re: PSA AAC 5.7x28 Brass
Looks like the only projectile iFire tried Bullseye under was a 40gr VMAX. I've used his data as the foundation for my own load dev, so without iFire having tried a 55-62gr projectile with Bullseye I likely won't either.
Have you done so in the name of science, or heard about anyone else who has?

Jay, good video. So IMR Trail Boss will be to fast for the 62gr FMJ for subs I was starting at 2.4 gr and work down at .1gr increments. I looked at the other powders but the fill rate was way below 60% and some were less.

I have successfully reloaded the AAS nickel plated brass. I destroyed 6 or 7 cases in the process of finding a working process and lube. For lube I use pure lanolin nipple cream "Parent's Choice Lanolin Balm" from Walmart. The Sheridan Engineering slotted ammunition gauge is priceless. https://sheridanengineering.com/product ... ion-gauge/

Re: PSA AAC 5.7x28 Brass
I believe the AAC cases are nickel plated brass. It seems to have a little spring back when it comes out of the die and once the neck has been pushed back and in, it takes a lot of force to draw the neck expanding ball back through. That is when I have had stuck cases, the case pulls out of the shell holder destroying extractor rim. I’ve also had some cases damaged by the rim being deformed. I tried several different lubes and settled on lanolin balm (Parent's Choice Lanolin Balm from Walmart – about $6 for 1.4oz). The Lee lube works ok, but this is cheap and local. I hold each case in the die for a few seconds, turn it about 1/3 turn and press again, turn and press a third time. That may be overkill, but it works for me. I also bought the Sheridan Engineering slotted case gauge so I can see how well the neck and shoulder match the chamber. I’d love to find some cheap 40gn FMJ projectiles.

Your video sums up nicely what I've read elsewhere ref a small amount of fast powder in a large case causing issues.
I brought up Bullseye as I wasn't sure how much volume would actually be left once a 62gr .224 projectile was seated in the little 5.7 case to mag length. Sounds like the answer is "too much" to use BE.
