Anyone use a giraud case trimmer for the 5,7x28 case?

Difficult to use? I know they don't have a standard trimmer for it, but they do have the blank trimmers.

I am thinking about picking one up for trimming 223 come January - the 5.7 would be a nice bonus.

if anyone has one, what are your opinions? are they as great as i read?

Custom as in the blank or custom as in something else?

Is the Dillon Trimmer adjustable for the 5.7 and even worth considering?

Here was Giraud's response to my inquiry about the 5.7x28 case.

Gavin,

Thanks for the interest in my trimmer. Yes, I have had a couple of inquiries about that cartridge. Unfortunately, it is too short to effectively use with my trimmer. The case holder of my machine is 1” deep and requires at least .125” of projection past the trimmer to the cutting blade to engage the case. With the 5.7x28, there remains nothing to grasp with the fingers while trimming. The closest case lengths I use on trimmer are the .22 Hornet at 1.4” and .17 Fireball series at 1.4” as well. Both are at least .25” longer than the 5.7x28 and leave a minimal amount of case to hold while trimming.

Thanks,

Doug Giraud

I sent an email to Possum Hollow to see if they are interested in making one of their "pencil sharpener" type trimmers for 5.7. Eric responded and asked for case dimensions. I sent him the CIP diagram and offered to send him a handful of sized 1x cases. I checked back a couple of weeks later and he responded that he is trying to get to it, but they are busy trying to get orders out. It was encouraging that they were at least interested in trying.

I'm worried that the Possum Hollow trimmer will rub against the case neck or shoulder and may damage the lacquer finish, but it's worth a try. It can be chucked up in their power drill adapter that I already use for my RCBS deburring tool so the per hour rate should be up there with the Giruad. I'm actually satisfied with the RCBS TrimPro w/ the 3-way cutter head, but I'm always looking for something better.

The EA trim pro plate was sweet, I hated using that LEE trimmer.
