Who makes Drop-In barrels for PBR?
I want to re-barrel my PBR in .260 Rem. Does anyone (other than FN) make a drop-in barrel for the FN PBR? Is it similar/identical to the barrel in any bolt action Brownings?
Re: Who makes Drop-In barrels for PBR?
a PBR is a post 64 type winchester Model 70 , a PBR XP and the SPR line are pre 64 Win 70 with controlled round feed.
So you are looking for a Winchester Model 70 barrel

Re: Who makes Drop-In barrels for PBR?
Problem solved.
Three weeks ago I'd E-mailed Pac-Nor to ask if they offered a drop-in barrel for the PBR. Their web site said they made barrels for Browning A-Bolts and I was sill under the delusion that a Browning barrel might fit. I posted here when I'd lost all hope that they'd respond.
Yesterday they (finally) answered that yes, indeed, they do make drop-in barrels for the PBR. Now the only question is how many lands/grooves (or polygonal), twist, length and barrel profile.
Make that questions. :ponder:

I didn't know Pac-Nor would let you choose that much on your barrel. If it were my choice, I would want a 26 inch, 4 or 5 groove, 1-8 or 1-8.5 twist, (it was a 260 Remington I think) 5R, single point cut rifled barrel. If it is button or broach rifled, then just the 5-R, followed closely by the polygon bore.
That is pretty neat that they give that much choice...I'll have to visit their web site.

Re: Who makes Drop-In barrels for PBR?
Late update.
Although I bought the PBR at a "fire sale" specifically with the intention of converting it to .260 Rem, I couldn't bring myself to chop it up without first testing its accuracy out of the box. All I did was remove the epoxy from the trigger adjustment, dial the trigger pull down to ~24 ozs and mount a scope. First range session, I shot a couple of boxes of hunting ammo, just to zero the scope and dirty up the barrel. Second session, I carried two boxes of Federal .308 match, one in 168 gr. and the other in 175 gr.
Both rounds consistently patterned around 1" at 100 yards (+/-0.2"); the 168s were a bit tighter. All groups at 200 yards were well under 3" on a moderately windy day and one five-shot string of the 168s measured 9/10ths of an inch, center to center.
To cut to the chase, I no longer see a .260 conversion in this rifle's future. In fact, I've got some 168 SBTHPs and 155 Scenars I plan to load up soon. Once those are done, I do see a trip to the 1000 yard range at Oak Ridge in this rifle's future.
