Initial Cleaning

Hi, New to this board and new to the M&P 5.7.
Just got the M&P and field stripped it for initial cleaning. There is evidence of it being fired at the manufacturer which is normal. The lugs of the barrel have a heavy grease like substance on them. Would this be cleaned off and a drop of oil applied? Seems like the grease is a bit much and would smoke a lot when hot. I tried finding any info on S&W site but did not have any luck. Can't wait to go to the range.

Brand new platform. I know lugs like this need, NOT the rest of the gun, but the lugs are going to need a heavier lube.

So it might need the grease.

The factory preservative and oil is meant to protect against corrosion during shipping and storage. The firearm should be cleaned before use.

I’ve been cleaning the barrel/shroud assembly with ballistol and lubricating the recommended contact points from the manual w/ Go-Juice. So far so good.

Does anyone with one of these think the trigger absolutely sucks? I am looking for an aftermarket one. It is horrible.
